Over the May bank holiday weekend, Lower Eighth philosophers attended the HowTheLightGetsIn philosophy festival in Hay-on-Wye. This trip is an annual highlight of our philosophy provision and is run joint with SPGS.
Pupils heard economist Guy Standing propose a Universal Basic Income, Tommy Curry argue that racism is permanent, Gunes Taylor teaches about the wonders of embryogenesis, and a Q&A with utilitarian Peter Singer – one of the world’s most famous living philosophers. There were debates, comedy, live music, a quiz, and lots of rain and mud. We are looking forward to the London iteration of the festival in September.
