Impressive Performances at the UK National Spanish Debating Competition

On Tuesday 4 March, two Upper Eighth pupils, Ben and Alberto, travelled to Hampton School for the UK National Spanish Debating Competition. Despite initial nerves, they argued convincingly in the first round, defeating Hurstpierpoint College 9–7.

Next, they faced a challenging debate against Hampton on whether tourism is damaging Spain. Although they presented strong arguments, the Hampton team edged ahead, winning 9–6. While disappointed, Ben and Alberto bounced back to secure a 10–9 victory against Alleyn’s School.

The competition was exceptionally tough this year, and they narrowly missed out on the semi-finals by just one point. Nevertheless, they deserve congratulations for their tremendous efforts in both preparing their arguments and delivering them with passion.
