In August, the 1st XV and 2nd XV travelled to Japan for an experience of a lifetime. The 48 man touring party flew into Tokyo and on to Oita full of excitement and enthusiasm.
During their time in Oita, the boys experienced amazing hospitality, including a three nights’ stay with host families, sightseeing and meeting the Governor of Otia (who sponsored part of our trip). Their matches received coverage on local television as they recorded several victories, including over Maizuru High School, the Japanese National Champions.
They then moved north to Kyoto for a few days of training, rest and recovery, and further sightseeing, including the bullet train and various impressive temples. Despite the hot and humid weather, the tour party was coping well and moved on to Tokyo and Yokohama where they were treated to a luxury hotel to prepare for the final games, go shopping in Shibuya, and visit the Sky Tower and Hot Springs. Their final two games finished with victories against Keio High School and Meiji Daigaku High School, both formidable opponents. The boys and staff were treated to a Sushi Dinner with a whole tuna fish carving to end their tour.
