Lower Eighth Modern Linguists Qualify for National Final of Joutes Oratoires Lycéennes 2025

The regional qualifiers of the annual French debate (Joutes Oratoires Lycéennes 2025) took place on 4 February at St Paul’s Girls’ School (SPGS) after school.

Four of our Lower Eighth pupils — Alex K-Falcone, Aden Si-Ahmed, Louis Williams, and Elyas Efthimiou — represented the school brilliantly against other London and Leicester sixth formers.

They debated in French on the use of AI in schools, urban sprawl, and the question of alliance with the Roman Empire in Asterix comic books. Alex and Elyas even managed to reach the final round against Grey Coat Hospital and qualified for the national finals by defending their stance on “You sometimes have to be selfish to succeed.” Congratulations to them all for their hard work and determination!
