Lower Third sessions with SPS and SPGS pupils on Feminism and Stereotypes

Several members of the St Paul’s School Values Committee, the St Paul’s Girls’ School Consent and Respect Committee and both schools’ Feminism Societies visited the Lower Third at St Paul’s Juniors last week to talk to them about feminism and stereotypes.

The older pupils spoke about things like what feminism means and how it’s affected their lives, as well as how stereotypes have impacted their time at school and what we can do to create a positive culture in all three schools. They then broke into small groups in which the Lower Third had the chance to ask questions and debate what they’d heard.

Feedback from the Lower Third pupils:

  • “It was interesting seeing the girls’ perspective because of how we have been in a single sex school for 4 years, some people longer.”
  • “We liked it because it was very informative. I learnt that men can also be feminists.”
  • “We learned how stereotypes reflect into the real world. I enjoyed hearing older boys and girls talk about feminism and they all had slightly different views.”
  • “I found it good to hear the perspective of older boys and girls because they might have a different view compared to us.”
  • “I think the talk was really helpful because it helped us understand things from all angles.”
  • “I found the talk very informative, especially when we broke into groups as we could ask our own questions to find out the proper answer.”
