Lachlan Murray (Fifth Form) won this year’s Moral Philosophy Essay Prize with an entry discussing what makes a football club the same football club over time. Lachlan’s entry demonstrated significant knowledge of football arcana as well as the application of sophisticated philosophical theories of identity to the phenomenon of football clubs. Carefully disentangling the theories of Quine, Heraclitus and Aristotle, his simple conclusion was “the way it is perceived by followers of football”. Haran Maruthainar (Fifth Form), Luca Orlandi (Fourth Form) and Zubin Maudgil (Fourth Form) were also highly commended for their entries.
