National Schools’ Regatta Success

St Paul’s emerged from the 2018 National Schools’ Regatta once again as the undisputed dominant force in schoolboy rowing.

The highlight was the 1st VIII, which won the Championship Eights event for a second year in a row. The crew, stroked by George Dickinson and with junior world champions Douwe de Graaf and Calvin Tarczy on board, had clear water just after 500m and extended their lead all the way down the course to win by an enormous 15secs. The crew then followed it up the following day with a gold in Championship Coxless Fours and silver in Championship Coxed Fours.

The Boat Club repeated the feat from 2017 of winning the 8s events in three of the four age categories, bringing home the J15 Eights for the fourth successive year and the J14 A Octos for the second year in a row. There was also a silver for our J16 VIII.

The J14s additionally had a record breaking year with a gold medal in the B Octo event – the first time the club has won both J14 events – making the total haul for St Paul’s 5 golds, 2 silvers and 2 bronzes.  Superb!
