Members of the St Paul’s Community are invited to share their messages of condolence, following the sad loss of Dr Ed Beesley, Head of History at St Paul’s.
Ed’s wife is extremely grateful for the kind words she has received so far and wanted the school to share this message with the Pauline community:
Normally, I am extremely assiduous in writing thank-you cards for the gifts I receive but, after today, this would be an Herculean task so please excuse the impersonal nature of this message.
Ed was loved and respected wherever he worked and it is an enormous help to Augusta, Theo and me to see this marked so palpably by the hundreds of cards and messages we have already received. We have long since run out of vases for beautiful flowers and the massive box which just arrived with so many envelopes, gifts and expressions of love from SPGS and SPS is quite overwhelming. The Rugby community also holds Ed deep in their hearts and so we are drawing on our collective good memories to keep us strong. Ed will live with us forever, of course, but you have all already played a huge part in supporting us and I know he would love you all the more for it.
With our best wishes, Lizzie, Augusta and Theo.

Will be missed in Shropshire; a great friend to all in the valley and the White Horse.
A good friend and stalwart opening batter!
This is all too sad. Dr Beesley was the teacher who took an interest in history and under it lit the brightest of sparks with his passion, learning, drive and humility. Praise was hard earned, and really meant it when it came. It was after leaving in 2004 and going on to study the subject at university that I fully appreciated what a special talent he was as a teacher. He left this imprint on so many people and will be sorely missed but so fondly remembered.
I’ve only just heard this very sad news but am truly sorry and send deepest condolences to Liz, Augusta & Theo.
we were so shocked and heartbroken to hear only just recently about the sad news of edd, he truly was one in a million, I will never forget the first time we all met him and lizzie when he moved to great oxendon, when me and my father david had the george at great oxendon, we spent many a happy times there altogether whether it was just for a quite drink to chat after i finished cooking in the kitchen, or when we had big family parties where we had invited him and the family over, he always had funny stories to tell, he always lit the room up when ever he was around with his infectious smile and laugh, so sorry to hear the sad news again thoughts are with you all lizzie augusta and theo at this terrible time ???xxxx
