Eight Lower Eighth Pauline Chemists celebrated an outstanding achievement in this year’s Cambridge Chemistry Challenge, receiving the prestigious Roentgenium Award.
The Cambridge Chemistry Challenge (C3L6) is a problem-solving competition aimed at Year 12 pupils in the UK, designed to stretch pupils beyond the standard syllabus and encourage university-level thinking in chemistry. In addition to the Lower Eighth, 9 Fifth Formers, 10 Sixth Formers and a Fourth Former took part, all winning awards including three golds and two Roentgeniums. Overall the school entered 103 pupils and 102 won awards.
The Roentgenium Award is the highest award offered by the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge. According to the University of Cambridge, it is awarded to approximately the top 0.5% of over 15,000 participants, with recipients invited to Cambridge for a special residential programme featuring practical work and challenging chemistry exercises. Eight Roentgeniums represented one-eighth of all top awards in this year’s competition.
The Lower Eighth (at time of competition, now Upper Eighth) recipients are: Nicolas Behroun, Inian Dhandapani, Jake Hope, Joshua Knox, Joseph Mullarkey, Haris Naser, Ari Pissioti-Capriello and Leo Pissioti-Capriello.
