On Friday 27 January, eight Upper Eighth pupils from the Politics department went on a day trip to visit the American embassy in Vauxhall along with Miss Gill and Mr Skidmore.
Having made their way through the formidable security process at the gate, the group met staffers from the State Department and were given a tour of the billion dollar newly-opened building. Highlights included the huge montage wall that mixes elements of the constitution, the flag and early famous historical documents.
The Politics students also saw the huge visa processing hall, the inhouse supermarket with American brands and the stunning views from the embassy pub and bar on the eighth floor across the river and London.
The visit concluded with a detailed discussion of American politics and the life and work of a State Department staffer, which gave our students a very personal view on the workings of such a powerful state
