At the season-opening Quintin Head on Saturday 20 January, SPS celebrated several wins after boating nine eights – the club’s largest-ever entry into a head race.
The 1st VIII was the fastest junior crew in the regatta, finishing second overall, by 0.3 seconds, to the Thames RC senior 1st VIIII. The J15A and B crews took first and second places in the J15 category. The J16A crew finished second, by 0.1 seconds, in the J16 category. The 2nd VIII finished 7th in the J18 category, ranking them as the second-fastest second eight on the day. The 3rd VIII was the fastest 3rd VIII in the event, and, like the 2nd VIII, beat several first eights from other schools on the day. SPS was awarded the Victor Ludorum trophy for the fastest aggregate J18, J16 and J15 times despite the 1st VIII’s time not counting because they were not racing in a junior category.
