Rowing World Champions

Six Pauline rowers became world champions at the World Rowing Junior Championships in Racice, Czech Republic on 12 August.Racing in the coxless four, Douwe de Graaf and Calvin Tarczy successfully defended the title they won in Lithuania last year, to become only the fourth and fifth ever double junior world champions from Britain. Racing with Michael Dalton and Theo Darlow from Molesey BC, they smashed the World Best time in their semi-final, lowering it to 5mins 47secs, before dominating the final to win by clear water.

Meanwhile in the eight, bronze medallist cox from 2017, Axel de Boissard, was joined by GB Pauline newcomers George Dickinson, Ollie Parish and Tom Horncastle. The crew, coached by St Paul’s own Antony Smith, got out to a commanding lead over last year’s world champions, Germany, but were pushed incredibly hard the whole way by the USA, to win by just under a second.
