Rugby Results vs Epsom College

On Saturday, 6 September, the rugby season returned with a strong block of fixtures against Epsom College. The U14 and U16 squads set the tone with commanding performances, winning most of their games. Both A teams will be satisfied with their first outings for the season, with the U14As producing a satisfying 19-0 victory and the U16As running out 27-5 winners.

The senior sides battled hard but found Epsom’s depth and power a challenge. The 1st XV started strong, scoring early and trailing just 12-5 at half time after a competitive first 35 minutes. In the second half, however, Epsom’s fresh forwards and sharp backline proved decisive as they pulled clear. The 2nd XV showed great spirit to take their opportunities and score two well-worked tries, though Epsom’s strength told in the end.

The U15s experienced a mixed afternoon. The A team came up against a very strong Epsom outfit and were unable to get a foothold in the game, while the B team showed excellent composure under pressure to seal a deserved 15-12 win. The C team fought hard throughout their fixture but were unable to turn pressure into points.

Overall, St Paul’s showed impressive effort and commitment in their performances, achieving 6 wins and 5 losses. The pitches looked superb thanks to the sterling work of the grounds staff in preparing them for the season. There is plenty to build on as we look ahead with confidence to next weekend’s matches against Hampton School.
