Southeast Schools’ Chamber Music Competition

Four chamber groups from St Paul’s represented the school superbly at the finalists’ concert of the Southeast Schools’ Chamber Music Competition at St George’s Hanover Square on Tuesday 11 March.

This was the largest contingent of Paulines we have ever taken to this event and the 17 boys involved all played with considerable musicianship and style in their performances. Although they were not declared winners in an evening of exceptional performances, we fielded more groups than any other school in the concert.

On Sunday, 23rd March, our jazz musicians performed their annual jazz set at the 606 Club in Chelsea. A packed house enjoyed performances from our Quintet, Combo, Swing Band, and Big Band, featuring tunes by Nat Adderley, Stanley Turrentine, and Henry Mancini.

SPS Monologues Competition

The annual SPS Monologues Competition took place in the Dorfman Theatre last week, judged by professional actor Andrew Macbean. In the junior category (Fourth to Sixth Form) the winner was Freddie Snowball (Fifth Form), with a highly energised, passionate interpretation of Malvolio from Tim Crouch’s I Shakespeare. In the senior category Atom Lucenet (Upper Eighth) took the crown with his moving, multi-rolling performance from Vanya, a modern adaptation of Chekhov’s masterpiece. Congratulations to both.
