Cricket
It was a successful weekend of cricket for St Paul’s vs Reed’s School. The 1st XI won by 45 runs, with Ali (Lower Eighth) and Jones (Upper Eighth) both making half centuries, and de Mestre (Sixth Form) taking 3-40. The 2nd XI also won by 66 runs, with a half century and 4 wickets from Jansen (Lower Eighth), further half centuries from both Sankaye (Lower Eighth) and Ritchie (Lower Eighth), whilst Hughes (Sixth Form) took 3-21. Meanwhile, the 3rd XI lost a hard-fought match against a strong Reed’s side.
Further success was found by the U15As, who won by 6 wickets. Burch (Fifth Form) was the standout player taking 4-22, including a hat trick, and scoring 32 runs. The U15Bs suffered a loss, although V Kurup (Fifth Form) took 3-13, meanwhile the U15Cs won. The U14As won by 5 wickets with 2 balls to spare, with a strong team performance beating a team who had had a good season and who had knocked us out of the cup earlier in the term. Some excellent fielding with 3 difficult boundary catches supported some good bowling (Johnson [Fourth Form] 3-22) and a terrific knock from Coondapoor (Upper Eighth) who scored 88. The U14Bs lost, but Metcalf (Fourth Form) impressed with the bat, scoring 41. Although the U14Cs also lost, there were excellent performances from Khan 3-23, Wright 43 not out and Brooks 30, all of whom are in the Fourth Form.
