Football

SPS V KCS Wimbledon Sat 30 Jan

Adverse weather led to away match cancellations but SPS hosted four home games with some mixed results.
The U16B team kicked off with an emphatic 3-1 win, with goals from Santiago Herrero De La Cuadra, Tomi Mahoney and Wilbur Mudie. The U15C showed determination, coming back from a goal down to win 2-1.

Despite the U16A team dominating their match they were unable to find the net and KCS scored a winner with only seconds to play, with the final score SPS 0 -1.  A valiant effort by U15B wasn’t quite enough to overcome the opposition; after conceding two early goals before getting one back and creating an exciting finish, the result stood at SPS 1-2

Rugby – U16 Eton College Sevens Warm-Up Games.

The U16 Sevens team squad began their sevens season with a four-team tournament at Eton College (the teams were from: Wellington College, Marlborough College, Eton College and St Paul’s).

Playing in the bright sunshine, the St Paul’s players gave a good account of themselves, defending brilliantly and getting better on attack as the day progressed. It wasn’t a day for medals but rather a day to hone our graft and get fitter, with our eyes firmly on the prize of being competitive at the Rosslyn Park National Sevens Tournament in March. Final results: lost 2, drew 1 and won 1.

Squash – Schools National Competition – Round 2 qualifiers Wed 29 /Thur 30 Jan

The U18 team took part on Wednesday, playing for a place in the Schools National Finals in March. They faced The King’s School Canterbury and Eton College, with only the top team qualifying for the finals. It was a tough battle between three very strong teams. After an SPS 3-2 win against King’s Canterbury, it came down to a straight shootout with Eton. The boys put in some excellent performances but unfortunately Eton were too strong, winning 4-1 and progressing to the final. The team consisted of Adrian Siniscalco, Tolga Mardin, Zubin Maudgil, Anish Dhar and Aryan Sankaye.

The U16s were also playing for a place in the Schools National Finals and faced KCS Wimbledon, Whitgift and Felsted with only one team qualifying. SPS and KCS Wimbledon were far too strong for Felsted and Whitgift so the deciding match came down to SPS v KCS Wimbledon. Despite a spirited performance, SPS weren’t able to overcome their opponents and KCS won 4-1, progressing through to the finals. The team consisted of Anish Dhar, Edouard Traissac, Nikash Younis, Alex Brask-Tyrrell and James Maby.

Cross Country – New Park Run PB

Alfred Chen (Fifth Form) took almost two minutes off his Parkrun 5K PB on Saturday, with a time of 16.47. Congratulations are due on a fantastic performance.
