Rowing

Bedford Regatta, Saturday 10 May

SPS crews swept the board at the Bedford Regatta, winning all J15 eights and J14 octuple events: a total of 6 wins meaning 54 Paulines brought home medals.

There were very strong performances by the A and B boats throughout the regatta, but also of note were the J15C crew, who overcame an early crab to win their final by two feet, and the J14D crew who beat Radley C and Abingdon C to set up an all-SPS J14 3rd Octo final. The J14D crew pushed the J14C crew, but ultimately the J14C finished ahead.

Athletics

English Schools Track and Field Cup – Friday 9 May

A sunny Lee Valley Athletics Centre played host to a wonderful day of track and field events at this team competition. The 14 SPS athletes descended upon the venue bright and early with excitement in their step.

Guy Parker made a good start for the team, scoring valuable points by winning the hammer (in his first ever competition at the event)! The success kept coming, with Andrey Serebryakov (Fifth Form) taking second in the hurdles and high jump; Luke Gleason (Fifth Form) breaking 12 seconds in the 100m; and Ryan Voeten (Fourth Form) taking two seconds off his 300m personal best. In the 200m, Leo Popov (Fourth Form) and Ethan Piric (Fifth Form) both broke 25 seconds for the first time, with Ethan adding a high jump PB in the afternoon.

The day was rounded off in winning style by the 4x100m relay team of Popov, Lam, Gunn and Gleason.  The SPS team finished in 3rd place out of 13 schools with a score of 400 behind winners Hampton who scored 441 points. Well done to all competitors.

Tonbridge – Saturday 10 May

Due to a clash with Apposition and the County Championships, a slightly reduced team travelled to Tonbridge on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Highlights included personal bests of 11.8 for Ethan Piric in the inter 100m; 5.71m for John Gunn (Fifth Form) in the inter long jump; and 2:16 for Alex Khosrowpanah-Falcone (Lower Eighth) in the senior 800m.

County Championships – Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 May

At the Middlesex Championships at Lee Valley, congratulations go to Charlie Nicolson (Fourth Form) for winning the U15 1500m in a PB of 4:25 and Zac Lam (Fifth Form) for making the final of the U17 200m, where he ran a PB of 23.55 seconds.

At the Surrey Champs in Kingston, congratulations go to Owen Xu (Sixth Form) for his 2:07 and Leau Roch (Fifth Form) who ran 2:03 while qualifying for the final in the U17 800m. In the U15 800m, Cyrus Sheikh (Fourth Form) ran a PB of 2:11 and qualified for the final. In the U15 300m, Ross Dunipace (Fourth Form) qualified for the final, finishing 6th in a PB of 39.55. Ross also finished 4th in the U15 long jump.

Also worthy of mention is Mack (Fulham Boys School) from the partnerships squad, who jumped 1.92m to win the U15 high jump and solidify his UK no. 1 ranking.

Cricket

It was a difficult weekend from a results point of view, with all nine SPS sides losing to very strong opposition teams from Merchant Taylor’s School. The senior sides were not helped by the fact that all but two Sixth Formers and many Upper Eighth opted out of playing to focus on revision ahead of public exams.

That said, there were several individual successes. Z. Martyn (still only an U15, Fifth Form) took 3-46 for the 1st XI, while G. Ashton and A. Swamy (both Lower Eighth) both scored half centuries for the 3rd XI. In the U15As, Ranvir Puri (Fifth Form) scored 93 runs, while D Kalia (Fifth Form) and D Cortesi (Fifth Form) both scored half centuries for the U15Bs and U15C respectively. For the U14Bs, D. Sharma (Fourth Form) also scored a half century.

Swimming

Cillian Bramham (Lower Eighth) has qualified for the Aquatics GB Next Gen Championships this summer.

The top 24 GB swimmers per event are invited to compete each year and Cillian has qualified for the 50m & 100m Freestyle events. In addition to this, he has qualified for the 4x100m and 4x200m Freestyle relays as a member of the Camden Swiss Cottage relay team.
