Squash
St Paul’s competed in the the Roehampton Invitation Squash tournament on Sunday against 7 other schools from the south east. Circumstances meant a smaller team attended than usual, so those who played were at a much higher seed than they usually would. Emerick McMahon (Upper Eighth), Zubin Maudgil (Sixth Form), Nikhil Dhar (Lower Eighth), Anish Dhar (Fifth Form) and Ishaan Moorthy (Sixth Form) played with great skill and determination to qualify for next year’s competition.
Swimming
Over the weekend, Inian Dhandapani (Fifth Form) participated in the Ealing Regional Qualifiers Swimming event in which 12 clubs around London competed. He had two first place finishes (100 Breast and 50 Back) and two second place finishes ( 50m and 100m Free).
Football
SPS V Monmouth (A)
Last Wednesday, the 1st XI travelled to Monmouth for the semi-final of the ISFA Bowl. Despite St Paul’s dominating possession and putting together fantastic phases of play they failed to capitalise on chances and lost 2-1. Our thanks to Mr Van Vuuren for driving the minibus on the 300 mile round trip to allow the boys to play in this match.
SPS V Hampton (H)
The 2nd XI hosted Hampton in the second round of the London Cup where they came up against a strong opposition and lost 5-0. The 3rd XI’s unbeaten run came to an end and they lost their match 2-1, whilst the 4th XI drew a tightly contested match 1-1. The 5th XI and the 6th XI continued their fine form and won their matches 4-0 and 3-0 respectively.
SPS V London Oratory (H)
The U16A team were far from their best on Thursday and lost their match 2-0, but the U16B showed a huge amount of determination and won a high scoring affair 6-2.
SPS V Berkhampsted
On Saturday, the 3G facilities at both St Paul’s and Berkhamsted saved the day and at least allowed 4 matches to be played from the 12 scheduled.
1st XI demonstrated their fitness levels and beat Berkhamsted 3-0, with all goals in the second half. The U16A match finished 5-5 in a game that had a bit of everything. The U15A struggled to get going in their match and lost 3-0. The U14A team started fantastically in a late kick off but ran out of steam – however thanks to a sterling effort by the defence, they held on to a 1-1 draw.
