St Paul’s Prep School Sports Round-Up

An update on the Prep School sport from week of 21 September, 2026 – By Simon Cattermole, Assistant Director of Sport.

Rugby

The fabulous weather we have been having keeps on coming and the pitches are still, for the most part, in racing parlance ‘firm to good’ and so for the sake of safety, fixtures are being moved on a week or two to give the chance of some rain to come. Please make sure you check SOCS for up to date school fixture in formation.

Athletics

Sunjeev in Lower Second took part in the QuadKids athletics competition, organised by Kingston Athletic Club last weekend. I am pleased to share that he came second in the overall points table for U10 Boys in what was a very close contest among the top three. Competing in the 400m, 50m, vortex throw and the standing long jump he acquitted himself really well.

Football

The U13 ISFA squad opened its account this week with a round one clash away at sporting powerhouse Brighton College. The long drive seemed not to be lurking in the legs as the boys were out of the blocks fast and completely dominated the game and the final score victory of 10-2 was a well deserved result for the boys, who have trained hard since coming back this term. Leo L dominated midfield, ably supported by a superb performance from Caspar D, also in midfield and playing a year up. This should not gloss over the splendid contributions from the whole squad who march into round two and eagerly await news of their next opponents.

Golf

Six pupils and two members of staff enjoyed a brilliant afternoon of golf at Drayton Park Golf Course at the ISGA Junior Schools Cup, with the weather on our side and plenty of excellent golf on display. Both school teams competed superbly and showed great spirit throughout the round. Casper led the way for the pupils with an outstanding 52 Stableford points, only narrowly pipped by Mr Brooks, who finished with 54 points. It was a fantastic event and a great experience for everyone involved. There were plenty of positives to take away, alongside a few areas to sharpen up before the next outing. An enjoyable afternoon and a strong showing from all involved!

Swimming

Charlie F recently experienced much success at the Wandsworth Club Championships at St Paul’s last Sunday. He competed in seven races and won four golds (200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 100m IM and 200m IM), two silvers (200m breaststroke and 50m backstroke) and one bronze (50m breaststroke). It was a particularly special milestone for him, as these were his first gold medals in all of the swim competitions he has taken part in over the past year. It was also a great achievement given that he is the youngest in his age category of 10 years, while still only 9 years old.
