St Paul’s Prep School, Sports Update – 15 May 2026

A round up of the Sport activities at St Paul’s Prep School this week – 15 May 2026

Golf

The Prep played in their first golf tournament for a number of years, entering two competitors into the Donhead Golf Day at the Malden Golf Club. The weather forecast was potentially not great but after some thunder and lightning prior to tee off, the skies cleared and the day became breezy but sunny. Caspar D and Aiyush P of the Second Year were our representatives on the day and both had a great day, competing with boys from many other schools and playing some super golf on a beautiful parkland course. Whilst no silverware was won on the day both boys played well in their first experience of competitive golf with Caspar scoring 32 Stableford points and Aiyush 13.

A person stands on a golf tee preparing to hit a golf ball with a driver, surrounded by a neatly mown fairway and trees under a partly cloudy sky. Cricket

On Friday, the U13A travelled to Feltonfleet, a strong side for such an early round of the cup, but the boys played really well to win by 2 wickets in a tight game. The U11ABC welcomed Dulwich Prep to our home pitches and all sides played really well to secure a clean sweep of wins.

On Monday the U13ACEF welcomed Dulwich Prep to our ground. A super win from the A team was well deserved whilst the C team fell to a defeat, as a decent batting performance was squandered by strong bowling from the opposition that forced the pressure to up the run rate proving too much. The E team were also unable to grab a win, but the F team were victorious in an entertaining match up.

On Tuesday the U11ABC travelled to new friends Durston House and all teams won and won handsomely whilst at home the U10ABCD entertained King’s House. The A team were involved in a thrilling tie (a very unusual result in cricket) and the B, C and D teams won well.

On Wednesday the U13ABC matches against Kings House were cancelled as the heavens opened and an enormous amount of rain and marble sized hail fell across the afternoon.

On Thursday the U9ABCDEFGH welcomed KCS for morning matches in glorious sunshine. With a host of eager spectators turning up to watch it was a lovely morning of sports with over 150 boys playing cricket in the sun and enjoying themselves thoroughly. KCS are always a tough proposition, blessed as they are with a seemingly endless supply of experienced cricketers and quick bowlers, even at this young age. Whilst only one of our sides won on the day (well done to Mr Coward and his warriors), there was some excellent cricket played all across the matches and much to be pleased about.

Trees and people are in the background. A group of young cricket players in white kits stand in a huddle with their arms round each other on a grassy pitch under a partly cloudy sky. Other children in similar attire and blue blazers are visible in the background, blurred, near a wooden building.

Tennis

On Monday, the U12 played Harrodian and saw St Paul’s Prep take a whopping 7 pairs of doubles players to this eagerly awaited clash. Fine weather and lemon drizzle cake were probably the highlights for the boys, but the quality of tennis and sportsmanship was also much appreciated by older members of the group! Particular thanks go to Theo H who jumped in as a replacement at the last minute! Unfortunately, the Wednesday U13 matches against Kings House were cancelled due to too much rain throughout the afternoon.
