Geography Society

The Geography Society (known as GeogSoc) is run by pupils and is designed to support their class learning and extend their understanding of geography.

The Geography Society (known as GeogSoc) is run by the pupils and is designed to support their class learning and extend their understanding of geography.

The activities are considerable and varied and include:

  • regular lunchtime talks from academia, business, government and pupils;
  • hands-on activities, including scenario role-playing, exploring such issues as how a government should respond to an energy crisis caused by terrorist activity, as well as other activities which involve modelling of the world trade system and the use of the department’s “Augmented Reality Sand-box”;
  • an annual conference, where four speakers present on a topic to parents and pupils before bringing everything together in a roundtable discussion with questions from the audience (Read about the most recent conference);
  • a magazine written and edited by the pupils;
  • trips to talks at the Royal Geographical Society; and
  • quizzes and participation in the Geographical Association’s WorldWise Quiz competition
