Philip Kastner leads the way as the St Paul’s Athletics Club finish 2nd at the Lord Burghley Trophy.

St Paul’s Athletics Club came 2nd overall in the Lord Burghley Athletics Trophy on Saturday with the Seniors finishing 2nd, Inters 1st and the Juniors 4th.

It was a superb team effort with some outstanding individual performances and a host of new PBs.  A new school record of 13.9s was set by the outstanding athlete of the day, Philip Kastner, in the Intermediate 100m hurdles. He also took wins in the high jump, discus, shot and a leg of the victorious 4x400m relay.  Philip was deservedly awarded Performance of the Match for his throw in the discus.

Tom White also had a tremendous day by winning the 100m, 200m A-string Inters and he also ran the final leg of that victorious 4x400m relay. Ben Tatters completed the Senior 800m and 1500m double by coming home 1st in both events with some superb middle distance running. David Nartey continued his great form after breaking the School High Jump Record last week, as he also completed a fantastic double 1st place in the high jump and triple jump. Max Buckley and Will Palmer both won their A-string 800m, a distance that neither have been beaten at this year and then came 2nd and 3rd in their respective A-string 400m. Monty Brown put in a courageous effort to win the Junior 1500m.

The team gave absolutely everything to try to win the prestigious trophy, however, to finish in 2nd place just behind Eton and ahead of the likes of Tonbridge, Epsom, Wellington, Brighton, Charterhouse and Marlborough was still a tremendous achievement.

Special mentions to David Nartey, Oliver Hill, Max Buckley, Ben Tatters, Will Palmer, Philip Kastner, Tom White, Joseph Schull and Monty Brown for winning their respective events. Gregory Zoppos, Will Palmer, Philip Kastner and Tom White also excelled in the Inters 4x400m relay finishing in 1st place, repeating their success at the Guy Butler Shield and Achilles Relays.
