Summer News

As always, it’s been a busy summer since pupils bid farewell to the 2023/24 academic year in early July. Here’s what you missed over the summer:

Olympic Bronze for Two Old Paulines
The Paris Olympics has been the talk of the season, with two Old Paulines representing Great Britain in the Men’s Four Final and taking home a bronze medal. Freddie Davidson and David Ambler (both 2011-16) rowed to the podium on 1 August. SPS Director of Rowing and former Olympic rower, Bobby Thatcher, cheered them on from the sidelines and said: “Freddie and David are fantastic role models for the boys at St Paul’s. They are hard working, humble and kind – qualities that we all aspire to at St Paul’s School Boat Club.”

Successful Launch of Space Summer School

Throughout 2023/24, we expanded and evolved STEM partnerships to reach the widest and most diverse community ever. Off the back of the STEM Summer School’s continued success, which included being announced as finalists in the 2023 Independent Schools Award’s Education Partnerships category, we forged a new partnership this year to run a third Summer Schools programme. The inaugural Space School ran successfully in July in partnership with Mullard Space Science Laboratory at University College London (UCL).

Paulines Around the Globe

This summer, Paulines journeyed around the world for various school trips, including a Physics competition in Hungary and a visit to Geneva. The Christian Union House Party, a century-old tradition organised by Old Paulines and the School Chaplain, provided a week of sports, drama, music, and discussions on life and faith in the Sussex countryside. Just before the end of term, we bid farewell to a group of Eighth Form students as they departed for Zambia in collaboration with our international partner, Beyond Ourselves. 

Rugby Pre-Season Kicks Off

Just before the start of the school year, pre-season rugby tours were held, with two camps for the U15 team, as well as an U16 and Seniors camp.
