Last Friday 23 February, the St Paul’s chess team competed in the 2024 regional finals of the Team Chess Challenge.
While the chess team put up a strong performance in the initial three rounds, winning 3-1 twice in a row then 3.5-0.5 in the third, with the majority of the team remaining undefeated, the team unfortunately did not perform as well in the final round, losing 1-3 to Highgate A, the team which ultimately won the tournament. Despite this setback, the team had lots of fun, and a special shoutout to Richard (Fifth Form), who won the Board Prize as he was undefeated throughout the entire tournament, winning all four of his games.
