The 2023 Viita Prize

The winner of the 2023 Viita Prize for Drama is Theo Frankel (Lower Eighth), with his play The Recluse.

This year’s adjudicator was Eve Cowley, whose theatre company, Footprint, have toured venues such as The Manchester Royal Exchange, The Crucible, HOME and Northern Stage. Eve won the inaugural Bill Cashmore Award and her one-woman play Screwdriver was produced and debuted at the Lyric Hammersmith in 2020. In her feedback on The Recluse, she praised its “impressive, driving action” and “sharp sense of anxiety”; the play will be performed in the Milton Studio at the end of this year.
