Third Consecutive Victory at the Head of the Charles Regatta

Just before the end of last half term, 14 St Paul’s rowers travelled to Boston, USA, to compete in the world-renowned Head of the Charles Regatta.

On Sunday 19 October, the 1st VIII started at the front of the Youth Eights field, thanks to their victories in 2023 and 2024. They quickly built a commanding lead over top US and UK crews, and by the penultimate timing point were 10 seconds ahead. In a thrilling finish, top US school crew St Joseph’s Prep closed fast, but the Paulines held on to win by just 0.5 seconds, securing their third consecutive and fourth overall victory at this prestigious event.

Soon after, the second SPS boat, racing in the Youth Fours, nimbly navigated the three-mile course to finish an impressive 11th overall – the second-best result ever for a St Paul’s second boat.

It was a fantastic weekend for SPS rowing – showcasing determination, teamwork, and world-class performance on the international stage.
