Trophy and Award Double for Firefly Racing Team

It was an early start for the Firefly Racing team as they boarded the minibus at 5.30am to make the journey to the Lotus test track in Norfolk. Despite the cold, windy weather, the team rallied together and once again their strategy worked brilliantly.

The F24+ (16–25 year olds) race was nail-biting, but the team managed their watt hours carefully and finished first out of the kit cars, bringing home another trophy to add to this year’s collection. Even more impressively, they also finished second overall, beating many of the usually faster scratch-built cars. This is the team’s highest overall finish to date and moves them up the leaderboard with an additional 18 championship points.

The whole team came prepared for the Engineering judge, ready to showcase the improvements they had made to the car since last week. These included Dhilan and Harrys helmet aero fairing, which went through wool tuft testing during the practice race and proved it worked. Leo brought along his battery temperature regulate prototype and Ehan had his competitor analysis chart. The judge was very impressed and awarded the team the Engineering Award.

Now, with just three weeks to go until the International Final, Firefly Racing will aim to defend their Championship Engineering title and take on rivals The Egg from Bromsgrove School and Green Arrow from Albyn School in the battle for this season’s kit car championship.

The racing team on Sunday was:

Arun
Leo
Haris (driver in the F24+ race)
