Weekend Sports Results

Athletics

Cross – Country – 27 September

The Co-Captains of Cross-Country made headlines at the Gunnersbury Parkrun with outstanding performances. Chris Garagnon (Upper Eighth) won the 723-runner event in 16.57, setting a remarkable new personal best. Fellow captain Alex Khosrowpanah-Falcone (Upper Eighth) also impressed, taking half a minute off his previous best to finish 7th in 18.31. OP Sai Bhatia ran superbly as well, placing 3rd in 17.12.

Triathlon – 28 September

Shunsei Kwan (Fifth Form) showed resilience and determination at the Hever Castle Youth Open Triathlon. Despite a crash that damaged his bike’s gear change mechanism, he secured victory by 12 seconds. This was his fifth triathlon of the summer, and Sunday’s victory brings his tally to two wins and a second, third and fourth place.

Basketball

SPS vs Latymer Upper (Away) – 25 September

The U16 basketball team opened their West London Partnership campaign with a strong performance against Latymer Upper. After three tight quarters, SPS pulled away in the final stretch to secure a 55–36 win. The result takes them to 2–0 on the season and 1–0 in WLP play.

Rackets

SPS vs Radley (Away) – 27 September

It was a mixed day for SPS in their away fixture against Radley. The 1st pair, Aryan Sankaye and Gabriel Ashton, were unable to avenge last year’s National Schools Doubles loss, falling 0–3. However, the younger squads delivered emphatic wins. The U16A pair of Rayaan and Aiden Ahmad cruised to a 3–0 victory, while the U15A duo of Costa Poulios and Santi Rio battled through a first-set tie-break before winning 3–0 overall.

Rugby

SPS vs Berkhamsted – 27 September

SPS enjoyed another highly successful fixture against one of the country’s stronger rugby schools. With three wins from four A-team matches and an overall tally of eight victories to Berkhamsted’s four, the results underline SPS’s growing strength.

Home Fixtures
The U15 and U16 teams produced a clean sweep of wins on home ground. The U16As extended their unbeaten run with a 27–7 triumph, while the U16B and U16C sides battled to narrow 10–7 and 27–19 victories. In the U15s, the A team began brilliantly, racing to a 28–0 halftime lead before holding off a spirited fightback to finish 28–21 winners. The U15B team delivered the standout result of the day with a commanding 50–0 scoreline.

Away Fixtures
The 1st XV fought hard but were eventually beaten 49–32 by a strong Berkhamsted side in a contest that showcased plenty of quality. The 2nd and 3rd XVs, hampered by injuries and squad disruptions, suffered defeats but showed impressive commitment throughout. The U14 squads had a strong day, with the A team winning a gritty 17–10 away match and the C and D teams recording excellent victories. The B team narrowly missed out in a close contest.

Rowing

Scullers Head – 28 September

On Sunday 28 September, 16 senior squad athletes tackled the Championship Course in single sculls to contest the Scullers Head. Edward Ludgate (Lower Eighth) secured a comfortable 6 second win in the J17 category while Jonathan Miles (Upper Eighth) romped home to win the J18 category by over 15 seconds, finishing 7th of 532 competitors overall. This performance secured for Jonathan his second brass plaque on the Wally Pearce Shield – an ungainly confection in wood and brass, donated by master sculler Chris Harris (OP 1958) for the fastest Pauline sculler at the Scullers Head. This pair of wins means that SPS defended both category titles from the last running of the Scullers Head in 2023 when Philip Wolfensberger (OP 2024) and Alp Karadogan (OP 2025) shared the spoils.

Swimming

Ealing SC Autumn Meet – 28 September

It was a golden day in the pool for Inian Dhandapani (Lower Eighth). Facing strong competition from 10 clubs, he clinched three gold medals in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly and 100m Breaststroke, as well as a bronze in the 100m Freestyle.
