ESAA Combined Event Finals
Over the weekend Leo Popov (Fifth Form) and Zac Lam (Sixth Form) represented Middlesex at the finals of English Schools combined events in Chelmsford. Both performed brilliantly, registering a host of personal bests apiece.
Leo finished in 10th place in the U15 pentathlon moving up 7 places in the final event thanks to a 16 second PB in the 800m! Zac finished in 11th place at the end of an incredibly close and high quality U17 octathlon competition, setting new PBs in no less than 7 of the 8 events.

Basketball
On Thursday 18 September, the U16 and U18 Basketball teams hosted Eton College for their first fixtures of the year. Both SPS teams gave exemplary performances, securing convincing wins with the U16s winning 60 – 26 and the U18s winning 74 – 22. The result provides an excellent foundation for the teams to build on.
Cross Country
SEAA Southern Championships Road Relays, Saturday 20 September
Three pupils competed for their clubs in the prestigious Southern Road Relays, producing very strong performances against tough opposition. In the U17 category, Leau Roch (Sixth Form) ran 4.6km in 15min18sec to help Herne Hill Harriers finish 6th out of 80 teams. In the U15 category, Charlie Nicolson (Fifth Form) completed 3km in 8min58sec, the second fastest leg of the day, taking his London Heath AC team from 13th to 3rd overall out of 91 teams. Cyrus Sheikh (Fifth Form) also competed, running 3km in 10min18sec for Hercules Wimbledon B team, who came 25th out of 91. These were three very strong performances against the best club runners in the South of England.
Golf
Independent Schools Golf Association (ISGA) Matchplay Knockout, Wednesday 17 September
The ISGA Schools Matchplay Tournament is the largest Independent Schools Golf competition in the UK. Three students per team play scratch matchplay against their drawn school, hoping to progress through to the national finals next April 2026. The SPS team (all Lower Eighth) produced a superb performance in the first round securing their place in the next round with a dominant display against Claremont Fan Court. Shiv Ahluwalia led the team with an emphatic 9 and 8 victory; Kaiser Riemann followed with another commanding win, finishing 8 and 7. Nicolas Behroun was also in strong form, standing 5 up when his match was called early.
Rackets
SPS vs Charterhouse, September 18
The SPS team produced an excellent performance, winning the majority of their matches against Charterhouse. Only the 1st Pair were narrowly defeated, with all other pairs securing strong victories:

Rugby
SPS vs Tonbridge, Saturday 20 September
It was a weekend of strong performances on the pitches for SPS. Both schools claimed two A team wins apiece, but across the block fixtures SPS came out on top, securing 10 wins to Tonbridge’s 5, a hugely encouraging outcome against one of the country’s strongest rugby schools.
SPS vs Tonbridge (Home fixtures)
The First XV overcame a 12-point deficit in the opening ten minutes to lead 23-19 with two minutes remaining, only for Tonbridge to snatch victory with a late try, finishing 26-23. The Second and Third XVs were similarly defeated 14-21 and 7-24, but both teams showed tremendous resilience and determination. The U14 teams completed a clean sweep, with the A, B, C, D, E, F, and G sides all securing wins.
SPS vs Tonbridge (Away fixtures)
The U15s produced some excellent rugby. The A team narrowly lost 19-21, while the B and C teams won convincingly 22-5 and 38-24. The U16 A team secured a hard-fought victory, though the B team were less successful.
