As the world becomes ever more
interconnected, with space and time shrinking, we aim to provide
students with the analytical skills they will need to make sense of
complexity. Understanding global issues that face mankind, from climate change to migration, requires a foundation of knowledge in
the myriad sub-disciplines of the subject of Geography.
AS and A level
To provide new areas of exploration following the IGCSE, the
AQA specification forms the basis
of AS and A2 study.
At AS, the students study energy issues and arid
environments, examples of integrated human and physical Geography,
together with issues of flood hazard management and population. At A2, they move on to look at the mechanism and impacts
of globalisation, the whole area of biogeography and the relentless
activities of world cities. With no coursework in either year, the
students are able to focus on the parts of the subject they are
particularly interested in to develop a single extended project
that often forms the backbone to any interviews.
After St Paul’s
Given the location of the school, both school and students are very active
participants in
Royal Geographical Society events. In addition, we take advantage of LSE lectures and
the DANA centre.
A vibrant Geographical Society run by the boys pulls all these strands
and more together to create a tangible sense of a Geographical study
community.
It's not surprising, given this ethos, that Paulines go on to pursue their Geographic studies at university and beyond.
