Predict the Booker Prize 2021

Join us online and hear our student readers talk about each of the shortlisted books, and join us in voting for the one St Paul’s thinks should win the prestigious Booker Prize of 2021.

The Prize will be formally announced on Wednesday the 3rd and we will discover if the Judges agree with our choice.

Suleyman is reading The Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead, a novel about a woman aviator and the actress who plays her. Federico is reading No One is Talking About This by debut novelist Patricia Lockwood. This book about a social media guru travelling the world feels very of the moment. Enyu is our only reader from the 6th Form. He is reading Bewilderment by Richard Powers who was previously shortlisted for his book Overstory. Dealing with a neuroscientist father trying to explain the threats to planet Earth to his son, this continues the environmental themes of his earlier book. Thomas is reading Promise which is Damon Galgut’s third entry in the Booker shortlist. This is the story of a family in crisis on their farm in Pretoria. Joe is reading The Fortune Men by Nadifa Mohamed which looks to be the most commercial of the books. It tells the story of a wrongful conviction in 1950s Cardiff. Finally, Zac is reading A Passage North by Anuk Arudpragasam about the aftermath of Sri Lanka’s civil war.

The event will be hosted by the School’s new Director of Teaching and Learning, Tahmer Mahmoud.
