Predict the Booker Prize 2022

11 OCTOBER 2022

6:00pm-8:00pm

St Paul's School - Kayton Library

6 books, 6 readers, 5 minutes each.

Join us to hear our student readers talk about each of the shortlisted books, and join us in voting for the one St Paul’s thinks should win the prestigious Booker Prize of 2022.

The Prize will be formally announced on Wednesday the 3rd and we will discover then if the Judges agree with our choice.

Paddy (L8th) is reading The Trees by Percival Everett, a story of a violent history which refuses to be buried.  Lachlan (6th Form) is reading Oh, William the third in Elizabeth Strout’s series about Lucy Barton. It is a story of marriage and loss, short and very powerful. Enyu (L8th) is reading Glory by NoViolet Bulawayo. This is the story of a revolution told by animals. Enyu read for us last year, and his book was voted St Paul’s winner of the Booker although sadly the Prize Committee did not agree with us. Theo (6th Form) is reading The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida by Shehan Karunatilaka. This is a satire set in civil war era Sri Lanka. Archie (6th Form) is taking on one of the shortest books, Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan. This is a powerful story of heroism in 1980’s Ireland. Richard (6th Form) is reading Treacle Walker by Alan Gardner. This fusion of myth and magic is very short and completely unforgettable.

The event will be hosted by the School’s Director of Teaching and Learning, Tahmer Mahmoud

This event will be held in person and also livestreamed – if you are unable to attend in person, please register here for the Zoom webinar. The live stream will begin at 6:30pm.
