On Saturday 13 November, over 30 Year 5 pupils from local primary schools took part in our first Primary Professors programme. St Paul’s School teachers led the session with support from Eighth Form volunteers.
Pupils will participate in a Mathematics class and a Science class during each Saturday session, with up to 20 pupils per class. In Mathematics, the children will work with a specialist teacher to focus on a range of problem-solving activities centred upon numbers. There will be opportunities for collaborative work within a friendly, competitive, and supportive environment. In Science, pupils will work with a specialist teacher in our purpose-built science laboratories. The course will include aspects of physics, biology, chemistry and their connections with space travel.
Primary Professors will be running throughout the year and will expand into other subjects in 2022. In the final week of the course this term, Year 5 pupils will move to senior school labs/classrooms with some sessions led by Lower Eighth Form pupils.
Sixth Form students from St Paul’s School and St Paul’s Girls’ School will also support the programme. There will be the opportunity for pupils to receive 1:1 academic support during the programme through our unique and first of its kind Colet Mentoring app, which has been tried and tested with dozens of schools over the last 12 months.
