Rowing Report

As the summer racing season reaches its crescendo, all year groups were racing this weekend ahead of the National Schools’ Regatta, which starts on Friday.

At Thames Ditton Regatta on Saturday, the J14A octuple won the J14 event, beating Radley in the final after beating the Hampton crew, to which they lost to at Bedford last week. The J14B crew lost by a canvas to the Radley Bs, again, reversing last week’s result. J14Cs, however, managed to extend their winning streak with a win over St George’s College. In the afternoon, the J15C and D crews were racing – the D boat as two fours – though they couldn’t get past some tough competition from the A and B squads of other schools.

The next day, at Poplar Regatta, the J15As and Bs, the 1st VIII and 2nd VIII and the J16As got some final 2,000 m experience before NSR. The J15Bs beat everyone apart from the Hampton J15As, giving them second place in the J15 event. The J15As, racing up a category as J16s, won their heat in great style, but had to be content with second place in the final, behind the SPS J16As, who posted a sub-six minute time. The 2nd VIII finished 3rd in the J18 category behind the first eights of Bedford and Westminster. Finally, the 1st VIII finished second in the Open Eights Gold final.
