Sixth Form Trip to Tarifa

Aside from the chaotic Odyssean return to London, involving cancelled flights and changes of the airport, the Sixth Form Spanish trip to Tarifa was a great success.

We basked in glorious sunshine instead of the forecast rain and avoided the often strong Levantine winds. We enjoyed exciting water-based activities, including kayaking and whale watching in the straits of Gibraltar and off the coast of Morocco.

As a reward for their matinal Castilian apprenticeship, the boys played volleyball and football and swam under the watchful eye of Ron, the spaniel’s master-cum-lifeguard.

The food was excellent: at the weekend, we lunched at two beach bars just before their annual closure. One of the highlights was a trek through the Pinegrove above the beach at Bolonia, where we had seen the Roman ruins and admired the dramatic scenery of the coast and the natural swimming pools created by rock formations along the beach. We really enjoyed the history, culture, language and relaxed atmosphere that makes Tarifa a wonderful place to visit.
