Congratulations to Elijah Patterson (Lower Eighth), who has won the 2021 Viita Prize for playwriting.
This year’s adjudicator was Phil Porter, a British playwright whose work includes Vice Versa (RSC), The Miser (West End), The Stonewatcher (National Theatre) and Pinocchio (Royal Opera House).
Phil said Elijah’s play was: “a really accomplished piece of writing which felt relevant to our times and hit its satirical mark. The dialogue is witty, compelling and fluent, and rich enough in subtext to give the audience plenty to figure out for themselves. A cleverly structured and smartly written play from a very promising playwright.” Elijah will be given the opportunity to stage his play in the Milton Studio later this year.
