World Book Week

This week, to celebrate World Book Week, we have seen two assemblies, one form time quiz and two on-going whole school competitions, as well as the start of a book drive.

We were exploring a theme of journeys and transport in books, concentrating on trains and maps in assemblies and including extracts from books that mention railways or locomotives.

The map competition to work out which map belongs in which book proved very popular especially among our younger readers, whilst the harder ‘shelfie’ competition (guess which bookshelf belongs to which member of staff) even puzzled the staff, as you can see in the photo below.

Some readers found the quiz quite hard but congratulations are due to Marcus Way, Ewan Kim, Ozan Isikli, Zane Si-Ahmed and Nolan Axelgaard who demonstrated a knowledge of their library, as well as good guesses at the ‘shelfies’ to gain more than 20 points.

SPJ boys read widely and well and World Book Week is an opportunity to celebrate that love of reading across and beyond the school. This is why we are also asking boys to look at their bookshelves at home and try to decide which books they can give away to help children who have little access to books. Boxes for books are on the ground floor in Ichthys and they are filling up fast.

Thank you – now begins the planning for 2025.
