Below are various achievements this week across the economics department:
Mayur Apte (Lower Eighth) won the Northeastern University essay competition, writing on: Does the expanding gig economy contribute positively to sustainable economic growth?
A team of four Lower Eighths, Ryan Gonsai, Charles Beaufour, Hansei Tan, and Adam Zimmerman, were selected from over 200 schools to compete in the semi-finals of the IEA Budget Challenge, with their controversial proposal of a wealth tax.
The Spring edition of the student economics magazine has been released and is available on the co-curricular hub.
We had our first meeting of the new Joint Economics Society, hosted by us, where SPGS and Partner Schools meet together to discuss economics issues. The first meeting was a discussion of the best economic reforms to implement in a small developing economy with high national debt and inflation problems.
