SPS Drama presents King Lear

SPS Drama welcomes live audiences back to the Samuel Pepys Theatre this term with a shattering new production of Shakespeare’s finest tragedy, King Lear, performed by a cast of senior actors.

Dates: 2, 3 and 4 December 2021

Time: 7.30pm

The time is winter 1978. Blizzards, strikes and power cuts take their toll on a beleaguered Britain, whilst a sea of rubbish bags swamps London’s Leicester Square. Overwhelmed by the crisis, Lear abruptly abdicates, dividing his kingdom amongst his children. Misjudging their loyalty, he soon finds himself stripped of the trappings of wealth and power that had previously defined him, forced instead into exile and madness…

The production lasts approximately two and a half hours (including interval). We ask that all audience members (unless medically exempt) wear a mask whilst inside our buildings. I look forward to seeing many of you there for what I hope will be an exhilarating theatrical experience to mark the re-opening of the Samuel Pepys Theatre.
