Tazeen Ahmad Talk about Refugee Crisis

This week we welcomed Tazeen Ahmad to come in as a guest for Geography Society to give a talk and screen her documentary on the refugee crisis.

Tazeen, herself the daughter of a migrant, was deeply moved by the shocking images of a washed-up child on a beach in Turkey, the same beach she had visited on a family holiday just a few months before. Inspired to do something, she founded Humanity’s Heart after spending time volunteering in Calais (The Jungle) back in June 2016. Humanity’s Heart aims to connect people who are looking to help with various initiatives that are tackling the crisis in Calais, Lebanon and Greece.

The documentary was deeply moving, serving as an important reminder that this crisis is very much ongoing despite media attention often being diverted elsewhere in the current political climate. Questions were asked at the end from the pupils about what can be done, with Tazeen imploring people to keep talking about it and raise awareness at every opportunity about the continued plight of so many refugees around the world.

A huge thanks to Tazeen for spending the time to come in and talk about some of the work she has been doing with Humanity’s Heart, inspiring everyone who was in attendance about what can be done by individuals with a big heart to make a positive change in this world.
