On Monday 29 April, Dr Sharon Madigan, Head of Performance Nutrition at Sport Ireland Institute, spoke to rugby players, footballers, rowers, cricketers and other St Paul’s athletes about nutrition in sport.
She spoke about the importance of nutrition in sport, and its impact on athletes’ abilities to train effectively, perform optimally and remain available on matchdays by avoiding injury and illness. She encouraged student athletes to build a regime of nutrition which builds a strong base for well-fuelled performance, by tailoring their eating to match their specific training schedules.
The sports department is hoping to integrate Dr Madigan’s framework into their nutrition guidance for athletes, and to make it easier for pupils to understand how to effectively fuel their athletic performance.
